yourefiredIf you’re a real estate professional, the longer you work in the industry, the more likely it is that you’ll find yourself firing a client.  As a real estate agent, knowing when to say “uncle” with the buyer who will never find the perfect home after looking at literally hundreds of them, or learning how to say “no” to the seller who refuses to consider listing his house for a price that is reasonably close to market value can be invaluable.  It can also help you be better at your job and better for the clients you have who need your expertise.

Maybe you’ve found that a client of yours has a personality that simply does not work well with your own, or you realize that your client thinks they know everything about the Regina market and will not listen to your professional opinion.  Whatever the reason, you are offering a valuable service and your hard-earned expertise, and it is important to recognize that not all clients are going to be a good fit.

Finding the right real estate agent is a lot like finding a doctor or hairdresser - just because you’re qualified to do the job, doesn’t mean you’re going to connect with every client.  And that is OK.  Knowing when to refer a client to another agent who will be better able to meet their needs is providing another level of professional service to them, and both of you will benefit from that decision.

On the flip-side, clients also need to know when their real estate agent needs to be fired.  If their agent isn’t meeting their needs, doesn’t understand what their primary objectives are in finding the right home (or selling their home), or isn’t making time for them they way they’d prefer, clients need to look elsewhere.

A partnership between a client and their real estate agent is based upon relationship, and that cannot be ignored.  Everyone has different needs and different talents, and it is not always the first choice in real estate agents that is the best fit.  If, after several meetings, you simply aren’t satisfied, consider that there may be another agent to do the job.  If you’re the real estate professional, make the referral, and if you’re the client, start interviewing other agents.  Doing so will get you closer to your goals and help your journey there be a much happier one.
